Instagram to Google SEO Cheat Sheet:

Six Essential Actions to Boost Your Search Visibility

  1. Enable Indexing & Switch Your Account Type

    • Switch your personal Instagram account to a “Professional” (business/creator) account in Settings.

    • Go to Privacy → Account Settings and ensure the option to “Allow search engines to index your content” is turned on.

    • Keep your profile public so Google can access your posts and show them in search results.

  2. Optimize Your Profile

    • Choose a handle (@username) that clearly reflects who you are or what you offer.

    • Use the “Name” field (different than username) to include a key term about your business.

    • Write a short bio (150 characters) that describes what you do, who you serve, and where you’re based. Include a relevant keywords.

    • Tip: Use Chat GPT to identify "keywords," username inspiration and bio descriptions.

  3. Write Keyword‑Rich Captions

    • Think about what your audience might search for. Tip: Use Chat GPT to identify this.

    • Use those terms naturally in your first few lines instead of cramming in hashtags.

    • Keep the tone conversational and encourage comments by asking a question or inviting feedback.

      • ALWAYS include a CTA which stands for Call To Action.

  4. Add Descriptive Alt Text & File Names

    • Before posting, click on “Advanced Settings” to add alt text—a sentence or two that describes
what’s in your photo or video.

    • If you’re uploading from a computer, rename your image files descriptively.

  5. Prioritize Informative, High‑Quality Content

    • This does NOT mean highly produced "quality" content.

    • Create posts that teach or help people: step‑by‑step tutorials, before/after transformations,
      quick tips, or mini guides.

    • Use carousels to break up complex topics into multiple slides, which keeps viewers engaged.

    • Create reels that explain or demonstrate something in an engaging way—adding text on screen
and saying the key phrases out loud helps both viewers and search engines understand your content.

  6. Encourage Engagement & Connect Other Platforms

    • Prompt followers to engage by asking questions, running polls, or encouraging them to tag friends.

    • Respond to comments promptly to build a sense of community.

    • Embed Instagram posts on your blog or web pages. This drives traffic back to your site and sends
      positive signals to Google.
